  1. This superb video gives a viewer an excellent look at the appearance of Allentown. The slightly less than an hour trip visits all of the different sections on Allentown, the West End, the Downtown, the East Side and the Southern Portion. One can see the residential architecture in the different neighborhoods. There are the row homes closer to the Downtown which were mostly built roughly between 1880 and 1930 and then there are the single family homes built after World War II, mostly between 1945 and 1975 after which most of the space within the city limits had been built on. In recent years there have been apartment and condo buildings built in the Downtown as part of the trend of moving back into cities. Over the past 40 years Allentown has become more ethnically diverse and the economy has shifted from heavy manufacturing to technology and warehousing. The city has dealt with some challenges but overall the outlook for Allentown in my opinion is positive.
